Edinburgh Hot Pot
Zoe and I make monthly trips to the Lidl in Dalry for our grocery shopping which is only about a fifteen minute walk from where we live. This might not seem like much, but when you're carrying back about two weeks worth of groceries, the casual stroll soon becomes a grueling trek. But why bother when we have a Sainsbury's less than a minute away from home? Mainly because its much cheaper; we usually never spend more than 20L and end up with a treasure trove of groceries. Not to mention that the walk there is quite pleasant and it always gives us time for a nice chat. Anyway, on the way, there's a hot pot spot that smells amazing each time we pass by and every time we tell each other we have to stop and have lunch. Then the day finally came where we decided to head on down to Dalry for some hot pot. I've only every had hot pot in San Francisco at my cousin's home and its always been amazing so we had some big expectations. They give you a little menu with a marker and you choose your broth, vegetable, meats, seafood, noodles etc. Needless to say we circled almost every option. While you wait, which was a short wait, you can serve yourself from an ample selection of sauces and seasonings to add to your hot pot. At first we were a bit confused as to how the sauces worked, but after observing the other patrons we mustered up the courage to go up there and have a look. When the waitress brought our platter of selected foods we were overwhelmed by the sheer amount we had ordered. But, we made it our mission to try to finish it all in the two hours we had. And we did! and it was amazing! The only disappointing part was that we weren't able to drink or take home the broth we had been adding flavor and dimension to. Regardless, it was totally worth the 16 quid we paid for and we'll definitely be stopping by on our way to Lidl soon!
